8 Schools in Baar made Heart-Safe

On February 21st 2014, Gemeinde President Andreas Hotz opened a new network of Defibrillators donated by KidsHeart, placed outside 8 large schools in Gemeinde Baar. In addition, KidsHeart will be facilitating training of 50 teachers and staff during the month of March. This project is the result of a long planing period with Gemeinde Baar and the vision of Rektor Urban Bossard and the Gemeinderat in Baar.

Exercising more, sitting less helps men prevent heart failure

Sitting for long periods increases heart failure risk in men, even for those who exercise regularly, according to new research.

The study is the first to examine the link between heart failure risk and sedentary time, said Deborah Rohm Young, Ph.D., lead researcher and a senior scientist at Kaiser Permanente in Pasadena, Calif.

Researchers found that high levels of physical activity and low levels of sedentary time were both important for preventing heart failure.

“Be more active and sit less. That’s the message here,” Young said.
